GoodSync is intended to synchronize and back up data. The tool supports various types of locations, including local folders, portable devices, FTP sites as well as some Cloud storage services. It can connect through such widely used protocols as FTP, FTPS, SFTP and WebDAV. The tool has an easy-to-use graphical user interface. Fortunately, much of the configuration tasks are done with the help of wizards, which saves the user from having to deal with quite complex parameters and concepts.
Two types of jobs are possible: synchronizations and backups. When you synchronize two locations, the objective is to have exactly the same contents at both sides, which means that it is a two-way transfer operation. In contrast, during a backup, data flow in only one way to create an exact copy of any of the two locations. Regrettably, the tool does not seem to support smart synchronization, which would avoid transferring data unnecessarily, thus reducing the required time.
When you configure a job, you can set a series of rules to manage possible conflicts. They tell the program what to do when there are two files with the same name. Automatic decisions are based on file modification date as well as location. They may result in deleting or renaming one of the conflicting files. Another possibility is to solve conflicts manually.
The process of automating synchronizations and backups is complete after you schedule jobs to run under given circumstances, such as periodicity, system shutdown, etc. Luckily, it is possible to group those jobs that should be run as a batch. It is important to notice that scheduled actions need the program to run from the Tray. Finally, there is a simpler way to transfer data between the configured locations and your computer: the program’s built-in explorer.
In general, GoodSync works quite fast and successfully resolves file name conflicts. Unfortunately, I do not have any evidence that the program uses data encryption. The product can be tried at no cost. Since it has other editions, called GoodSync2Go and GoodSync Enterprise Server, it is a good idea to see which one works best for you. I should also alert that there are similar tools available for free. So, if you have a tight budget, it would be a good idea to look for those free alternatives.
It is a program that automates your routine manual file copying actions.
